I'd recently come to a crossroads in my artwork. My personal project, Cloud Eagle, was halted after I felt a loss of faith in myself & my work.
Recently, I created the humor/horror comic D.E.A.D. Beat (Defense Emergency Authority Division). DB was printed as a preview in a nationally published comic!
Cloud Eagle was always on my mind, though. Without going into a sermon, I literally felt God's hand guide me back to my first love. This was backed by others telling me to go with what I enjoy drawing, not the end product.
Sooooo, long story not so long, I'm returning to Cloud Eagle. I'm doing the DC52 reboot and starting from scratch. With all I've learned from the original webcomic works & from D.E.A.D. Beat, I feel I'm going to knock out a fantastic product. In other words, I'm believing in what I can do again. Even if an image fails, I'll learn from it & improve on the next drawing.
The first arc is a martial art horror story, something that hasn't strongly been done in the US. The undead martial artists will be called unborn agains, in keeping with Biblical references in my martial works.
Above is the cover for the work. I wanted something different that will stand out from other images and be unique on its own merits. A strong white & black image with gold splashes standing out. There's a mirror of size from the martial artists/characters ala Batman & Robin. Godspeed has the guns held out aggressively & Hallelujah has the guns crossed defensively. The cloud surrounding the pair represents both ninja smoke & heavenly cloud clover. "Pray for the Prey" is a great tagline & marketing statement.
